Standard working hours are 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. The standard workweek is from Monday to Friday. However, an employee can extend the workweek to 45 hours by working for 4 hours on Saturdays.
Overtime payment is mandatory and is not included in the salary. Overtime is defined as any hours worked outside regular business hours, and before doing so, an employee needs permission from their employer. Employees are paid 150% of their hourly rate for up to 12 hours of overtime per week.

For Borderless customers, all employee payments will be made in equal monthly installments on or before the last working day of each calendar month, payable in arrears.
If there is sufficient justification, an employee may be terminated immediately; otherwise, the requirements of the employment contract must be followed. The Labour Commissioner must give his or her approval before firing an employee.
The employment contract will determine the notice period, which is not regulated by law. The typical duration is one month. There is no notice period during the trial period.
There is no specified maximum. Generally, probation period is 3 or 6 months.
Severance pay is a legal requirement in Sri Lanka for all workers who are let go without cause or who have been employed for more than five years. Terminations without cause need the Commissioner of Labour's approval and can request higher payments based on each case.
